lyrics

“Elsie’s Cup”

Verse 1

Bedsit 2b above the shop in the high street,
little white elephant sleeps under the dustsheet.
Children send no postcards, they don’t even ‘phone,
they say ‘go abroad to hear the news from home’.

Verse 2

Elsie’s drinkin’ vodka from a coffee cup,
dryin’ her eyes spoilin’ her make-up.
Empties the ashtray in the bucket on the floor,
thought she heard a knock at the door.

Chorus

But they don’t come no more,
what was it all for?
Denyin’ her singin’ was over,
the drop that made Elsie’s cup run over.

Verse 3

Notes roamin’ wild on a derelict upright,
Smoked-stained ivory on rollercoaster keys.
Movin’ her body to the triplet beat,
she’s in the zone, she hears what she sees.

Chorus

Bridge

Travelled a million miles to be here,
can’t sit around a table and not drink.
Bein’ lonely doesn’t mean she don’t want to be alone,
she’s just too tired to think.

Chorus

Fade
